Krupnikas (Kru-pni-kas)

Krupnikas (Kru–pni–kas) is a 16th century recipe that we, at Milton and Chambers, have brought back to life. It’s a new, old spirit that has a place in most people's drink collection.

Our recipe uses a sugar beet spirit base which is redistilled with 17 hand prepared botanicals. Post distillation we add the fresh locally sourced honey to finish. This gives a sweet and spicy spirit that is naturally warming. The decision to use sugar beet spirit allows Krupnikas to be enjoyed by individuals with specific dietary requirements.*

*product has not been certified allergy safe and whilst it does not contain gluten or dairy containing ingredients, we cannot guarantee that it has not been in contact with these due to the current use of a third party distillery. We are hoping to offer a fully tested product in future.

Spirits in development

Bramblewin (Bram-Buhl-Win)

Valued for its distinct flavour and possible medicinal properties Bramblewin was forgotten in preference for Blackberry wine and Sloe Gin. The complex flavour focuses on the plants of the British hedgerow and finishes with an almost chocolate note.

Pertsivka (Pert-siv-ka)

First made in the 15th Century its original purpose was curing winter chills and ailments. Gaining its flavours from fruits and berries this spirit finishes with a smoky heat that some will find invigorating whilst others may need tempered with a mixer.

Alchermes (Al-cher-mes)

Dating back to the 8th Century this drink was created as a restorative for the wealthy classes, composed of spices and exotic ingredients. Still made in some regions of Italy this rogue spirit can be sipped after dinner or used to create fantastic desserts. It is a magical spirit.

Aqua Mirabilis (Ack-wa Mi-ra-bi-lis)

Not to be outdone by the Monks, the Carmelite Nuns from the Abbey of St Just crafted this botanical spirit in the 14th century using select herbs from the Abbey gardens. It was once so popular that the ladies of the court of King Charles V of France carried a bottle on their person, and it became the first bottled formula offered to the public with a protective seal of melted red wax.
